Brazil - More than 61 million Brazilians are indebted today, half of which are overindebted. Many of them make new loans to pay off arrears, setting up a snowball of interest rates without prospect of negotiating an exit with financial institutions. Idec has monitored the case of a retired professor who became over-indebted and has heard experts about the lack of regulation on credit supply and credit advertising, drawing up the scenario of overindebtedness in the country.
