Almost 80% of the bananas in Japanese supermarkets are grown on Mindanao Island in the Philippines. However, there is a distasteful reality behind this trade which Fair Finance Guide Japan has uncovered.

These plantations are using exploitative labour practices that violate the labour and human rights of farmers and workers and the research uncovered global financial mechanisms and schemes, including tax havens, helping to protect the multinational corporations operating these plantations and their investors from being held accountable.
